San Luis Obispo, CA — At approximately 9:15 a.m. this morning a Cirrus SR22, a single-engine aircraft was involved in an incident at the SLO County Airport (SBP). Emergency personnel responded immediately, all individuals safely exited the aircraft. No injuries or fatalities resulted from this incident. SBP will reopen for all arrivals and departures beginning at 5 p.m. PST today.
“The safety of our community is always our highest priority, and I want to extend my sincere appreciation to the County airport staff, County Fire Department, ACI Jet, and all of the emergency personnel who responded swiftly and professionally to today’s incident,” stated Dawn Ortiz-Legg, County of San Luis Obispo Supervisor District 4. “Their coordination and commitment to safety ensured a prompt and effective response. We are grateful for their service and dedication.”
“We are grateful for the swift and coordinated response from our airport staff and local emergency responders in managing today’s incident,” stated Courtney Johnson, Director of Airports. “Thank you as well to our passengers and community for their patience and understanding. The airfield has been safely cleared and is ready to resume normal operations.”
“Thanks to the rapid response of our two personnel on Crash 21 and their aggressive attack on the fire we were able to minimize impacts to the airport by keeping the fire from spreading to wings of the aircraft where fuel is stored. I believe their timely actions as well as the positive working relationship we have with SBP airport staff helped ensure the safety of the two individuals on board and we are very thankful that this incident did not result in any injuries or worse for those involved” stated Ryan Grebe, Public Information Officer for San Luis Obispo County Fire Department.
