Summer Travel Advisory

SLO County Airport welcomes the summer travel season

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA — The summer travel season has arrived and the SLO County Airport (SBP) is gearing up to accommodate the increased travel traffic expected during this time of year.

“We are excited to see so many travelers choosing SBP for their summer travel,” said Courtney Johnson, Director of Airports. “Our team is committed to providing a safe, efficient, and pleasant journey for everyone.”

To help passengers navigate the busy travel period, SBP recommends the following these five travel tips:

  • Check Flight Status. Verify your flight status before leaving for the airport. Airlines sometimes experience schedule changes, and staying informed can save you time and stress. Passengers should check with their airlines directly for real-time updates on their website or mobile apps.
  • Prepare for Security Screening. Wear easily removable shoes and avoid wearing belts or jewelry that may set off metal detectors. Have your ID and boarding pass ready for inspection and follow TSA officers’ instructions to ensure a smooth process.
  • Pack smart. When going through the security checkpoint, come prepared to follow the 3-1-1 rule for your liquids and gels: 3 ounces of liquid in a 1-quart bag, 1 bag per person. Preparing your liquids ahead of time helps prevent crowding in the security line.
  • Early Arrival and Check-in. SBP encourages all passengers to arrive at the airport at least 2 hours prior to their scheduled departure time. This allows ample time for check-in procedures, security screenings, and any unexpected delays.
  • Parking information. For travelers driving to the airport, please be aware that parking spaces may fill up quickly during peak travel times. SBP recommends exploring transportation options such as rideshare service or arranging drop-offs when possible.

SBP continues to prioritize the health and safety of its passengers. Enhanced cleaning protocols remain in place, along with readily available hand sanitizing stations throughout the terminal. From a sustainability perspective, passengers are reminded that SBP has two water stations in the terminal which passengers can use to fill their water bottles to stay hydrated during their travels.
