San Luis Obispo, CA – With the holiday travel season underway, the SLO County Airport (SBP) is prepared to welcome an anticipated increase in passengers throughout the coming weeks. The Airport team is ready to support a smooth, efficient, and festive travel experience for residents and visitors alike.

“This is one of the most joyful and active times of year at our airport,” said Supervisor Dawn Ortiz-Legg. “Our community is fortunate to have a team committed to providing exceptional service, and I know they are ready to help ensure residents and visitors alike enjoy safe and seamless holiday travel.”

Courtney Johnson, Director of Airports, shared “The SBP team is fully prepared for the holiday rush, and we look forward to welcoming travelers through our doors. Our staff takes great pride in creating a warm, positive experience—from curb to gate—and we encourage everyone to arrive early and enjoy the festive atmosphere.”

To support a stress-free journey, SBP encourages travelers to follow several holiday travel tips:

Plan Ahead & Arrive Early

  • Arrive at least two hours before your scheduled departure to allow time for parking, check-in, and security screening.
  • Check your flight status with your airline before heading to the airport, as winter weather and peak travel volumes can affect schedules.
  • Consider alternate transportation to the airport whenever possible—such as rideshare, carpooling, or public transit—to help ease parking demand.

Prepare for Parking

  • Holiday travel brings increased demand for parking. Passengers should allow extra time to park and review parking options and availability on the airport’s website.

Navigate Security Smoothly

  • Review TSA guidelines before packing. Wrapped gifts may need to be opened during screening, so consider gift bags or packing materials instead.
  • Remember: solid foods are generally allowed in carry-on bags, while liquids or gels over 3.4 ounces should be placed in checked luggage.

Stay Connected

  • Fully charge devices before arriving and download your airline’s app for real-time updates, mobile boarding passes, and gate information.
  • Follow SBP on Instagram for more updates, @sloairport.

Practice Patience & Kindness

  • The holidays are busy for everyone. A little patience and courtesy go a long way in creating a positive travel experience for all passengers and staff.

In addition to these travel tips, SBP invites travelers to arrive early and enjoy the terminal’s beautiful holiday décor. The airport has been thoughtfully decorated to reflect the festive spirit of the season, offering a cheerful and welcoming environment for guests beginning their holiday journeys. Guests are also encouraged to explore the new Ah Louis Store Outpost pre-security and grab a hostess gift prior to your flight or upon arrival. Lastly, SBPaws therapy dog program will welcome guests each day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
