Travel Tips & TSA Info
Make navigating security a breeze
The Security Process
Both the airport and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recommend arriving at the airport 2 hours before your flight. Please keep in mind that the early morning is the busiest time for flights out of SBP.
Although there is no dedicated Pre-Check line at SBP, passengers already enrolled in the Pre-Check program may be able to keep shoes and light jackets on.
Liquid Limits and Prohibited Items
The TSA requires that all passengers follow the 3-1-1 rule regarding liquids: 3.4 ounces of liquid per container, 1 quart-sized bag to hold all containers, 1 bag per person. Liquids greater than 3.4 ounces (100mL) must be in checked luggage. There are exceptions for medications and infant food; for details, visit the TSA Liquids page.
Weapons, food, sporting equipment, smoking devices, and tools all have varying regulations regarding whether they can be in your checked or carry-on luggage. For specific items, visit the TSA Prohibited Items page.
What is REAL ID?
REAL IDs are state driver licenses that comply with new federal security regulations. Those who want to continue to use their driver license or ID card to board a domestic flight or enter secure federal facilities will need a new REAL ID before new federal requirements.
There is no need to rush to the DMV! Until May 7, 2025, a valid California driver license or ID card can be used for federal purposes, including boarding a domestic flight and entering military bases or secure federal facilities. After that date, only a REAL ID card or other federally approved documents will be accepted, such as a U.S. passport, passport card or military ID. Learn more about REAL ID.
